ASTM A320 B8m is similar to ASTM A320 B8 but instead it is manufactured from stainless steel 316 as opposed to stainless steel 304. Although type 316 stainless steel is more expensive, it offers superior corrosion resistance compared to 304 stainless steels. A320 B8m Class 2 fasteners require an additional strain hardening operation. ASTM A320 B8m Class 2 does not require an impact test. ASTM A320 B8m exhibits improved chloride corrosion resistance due to the addition of molybdenum. It offers acceptable corrosion resistance to the marine atmosphere when pitting corrosion is concerned. It provides good chemical resistance to most agents used in the petrochemical, food, dairy and paper industries. It is widely used for an application which requires corrosion resistance or good elevated temperature strength. ASTM A320 B8m Class 2 exhibits excellent ductility and it can be easily roll formed, deep drawn and bent, in the annealed condition. Annealing is important to restore ductility and to lower hardness for subsequent forming operations.
