Tap end studs have a different thread length at each end of the stud. The shorter thread length is called the tap end and is threaded into the tapped hole of a flange. Tap end stud bolts have a short thread on one end called the tap end which is threaded to a Class NC5 or Class UNC-3A fit. This end is for screwing into a tapped hole. The other nut end is threaded with a Class UNC-2A fit. Length of the stud is measured overall. The tap end has a chambered point, but the nut end may have either a chambered or round point at the manufacturer’s option. The tap end has a chambered point, but the nut end may have either a 30° or 45° chambered end or round radius’s end at the customer’s option. The tap end can be measured from the end to last scratch end of the chamber to the last full thread or any combination of last scratch, last full thread end or end of chamber.
