FAQ –
What are fastener nuts?
A nut is a fastening mechanism used in technology that consists of a square or hexagonal block, typically made of metal, with a hole in the middle that has internal, or female, threads that fit on the male threads of an accompanying bolt or screw. Fastening machines and structural parts often involve the use of a bolt or screw and nut.
Why are fasteners called nuts?
Why is it called a nut (like in nuts and bolts)? Old English hnutu meant “hard seed.” It came from Proto-Germanic *hnut-, which also gave us Old Norse not, Dutch noot, Old High German hnuz, and German Nuss (source also of Latin nux; see nucleus). The meaning of “testicle” dates back to 1915.
How many types of nut bolts are there?
Eye bolts, wheel bolts, and machine bolts are all different kinds of bolts, and cap nuts, expansion nuts, and u-nuts are all different kinds of nuts.
