The grades A, B, C and D along with the ASTM A563 Grade Dh Nuts are all made up of carbon steel. The grades A and B are hex or heavy hex nuts where all the other grades are heavy hex nuts. The Heavy Hex Nuts ASTM A563 range from ¼ inches to 4 inches depending on the grades. The nuts ranging from ¼ inches to 1 ½ inches fall under the grade A and B mostly. The Nuts ASTM A563 Grade A has hex nuts ranging up to 1 ½ inches and heavy hex nuts ranging up to 4 inches. The materials used have carbon, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur in the composition. The ASTM A563 Nut Dimensions differ with the grade and the strength varies as well. The hardness of the nuts range from 116 HBN for grade A and up to 352 HBN for DH and DH3 grades. The ASTM A563 Coupling Nut is a special type that can connect two bolt ends together. The proof load of the grades varies as well. The grade A plain nuts have 90ksi proof load and galvanized ones have 68ksi. The ASTM A563 Heavy Hex Nut of grades DH and DH3 have proof loads of 175ksi for plain and 150ksi for galvanized nuts. Due to the high tensile and yield strengths of these nuts, the Heavy Hex Jam Nut ASTM A563 types are used in high stress systems such as transportation and construction.
ASTM A563 Nut Thickness varies with the eight different grades that are covered by this ASTM A563 specification. There are eight grades namely, the A, B, C, D, DH, C3 and DH3. Each grade has different type of material and heat treatment. The ASTM A563 Dh Heavy Hex Nuts are made up of carbon steel and can be quenched and tempered.
